Get Ready for March Madness

March Madness News

The Florida Gators won the 2006 and 2007 men’s college basketball championships, but will the Kansas Jayhawks become the first team to win back-to-back titles since then? Or will one of the three pegged-on favorites bring it home?

These are just some of the questions that keep being asked as the journey to the 2023 NCAA tournament continues. The Final Four begins on April 1st, with the final game being played on April 3rd at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

New Jersey City University Creating Madness Already

For those of us who thought we’d seen it all in terms of bizarre basketball game outcomes, Division III college basketball came through with a bang. Last Wednesday night, New Jersey City University completed an unbelievable comeback by winning on the back of two 3-pointers made in the final 5.2 seconds of the game.

At 7.1 seconds left, Rowan had a 71-67 lead. NJCU ran an out-of-bounds play to the side and promptly found Ryan Savoy cutting to the basket. With 2.8 seconds left on the clock, he put up and made a 3-point shot, bringing the score to a single point.

Rowan’s Ja’Zere Noel tried to find an open teammate with an over-the-top pass on the next inbounds play. Yet NJCU’s captain Jason Battle intercepted the ball and went for glory from just inside the half-court line. It went in. Nobody could barely believe what they had just seen.

March Madness Picks

Following their 2021 run to the title game, Houston enters the 2023 tournament as one of the top three picks. The Power Rankings keep changing for the NCAAB tournament, so here are the top three to keep in mind if you want to bet on march madness in New Jersey.

  1. Houston Cougars
  2. Purdue Boilermakers
  3. Alabama Crimson Tide

Our Inside Look at the Big Contenders

Lastly, with only a short time to go until March Madness kicks off in all its glory, we look at the big contenders. Keep these teams in mind when checking the betting sites and promotions because the top teams regularly go deep into the tournament.

Houston

One of only two American teams to rank in the top 10 for both attack and defense, Houston is well-rounded offensively and defensively. They play a hard, disciplined style that wears opponents down. The Cougars’ roster is loaded with experience and features several veterans, including team captain Marcus Sasser and one-and-done player Jarace Walker.

Purdue

The odds-on favorite for Player of the Year, 7-foot-4 giant Zach Edey is a matchup nightmare for any opponent. The rest of the cast, including Loyer, Smith, and Gillis, complements Edey well. They have the intelligence, height, and depth to win. Although the team recently got knocked off the number one seed after two losses in three, no one will be writing off Purdue.

Alabama

The Alabama team coached by Nate Oats has a reputation for having a potent and lethal offense, and this year’s squad lives up to that reputation. However, the Crimson Tide’s greatest strength lies in its ability to rely on its defense. They have top-two statistics in 2-point defense and 3-point defensive percentage allowed, and star freshman Brandon Miller is one to watch on the offense.
